Part A: Share your environment analysis in a discussion forum. (50 words)
Part B:
You will choose an environment to analysis. The purpose is to determine and analyze the level of inclusivity and representation of a given environment. You get to choose what environment you analyze: a classroom, a toy aisle at a store or a children’s movie/show. You can also analyze a different environment of your choice. Once you choose your environment, you will schedule time to observe, take notes and then analyze. Then, you will write a 500 word analysis of the environment. Media examples are not required but could be added if you would like.
Your analysis must address the following components:
1. Who is represented in this environment? (e.g. genders, races, abilities, etc.)
2. Who is missing from this environment? (i.e. who is NOT represented in this environment?)
3. What assumptions or generalizations are being made in this environment? (i.e. learning preferences, color preferences, behaviors, stereotypes).
4. What messages are being promoted through the use of language, images or colors?
5. In what ways is the identity of children promoted or not promoted in this environment?
6. What recommendations would you suggest to make this environment MORE inclusive or representative of a more diverse audience?
Submission
1. Written analysis (minimum of 500 words).
