Select one of your interactions in your practicum agency to complete one process recording. This recording will record verbatim the interaction between the student and client system(s) at the placement agency. The process recording is a valuable tool to help evaluate how you (students) apply the foundation skills, knowledge, ethics, and values to practice. It is also helpful in assisting the students in developing an awareness of self in the process of interviewing, assessment, and intervention. In this exercise, students will use oral and written professional communications that are consistent with the language of the practicum setting and have an opportunity to evaluate both the efficacy of their interventions and the use of self in the process.
There will be four categories in which the student will record information. They are 1) what the client/consumer said, 2) what the student intern said in response, 3) what the student intern was feeling and thinking during the interaction, for e.g. re: values, reaction to clients/consumers that either help or hurt the process 4) the effectiveness of the interaction and alternative responses which might have produced a more desirable outcome.
