Secure attachment is the one I feel best suits me. Secure attachment is when an infant obtains both comfort and confidence from the presence of his/her caregiver. (citation powerpoint 17) This definition best fits me because I would see things like the definition happen in front of my eyes. When I was growing up, I felt very secure around my parents and family members or even my friends but if I was talking with somebody I did not know as well I would not be as comfortable. Or the times in high school when I would be on the basketball team. Whenever I was playing a home game, I felt like I just performed better because that is the place that I’m used to therefore I possessed more confidence in myself.
Sometimes it can be difficult having an attachment type like this but personally when I get to know the person, I am very confident in myself and sometimes even turn a bit goofy. The problem is finding that comfort in myself to want to get to know somebody and be friends with them. I believe a lot of it stems from how close me and my parents are. Another important thing about a child developing is the fact of if the father is in the child’s life or not as well as having fathers as social partners throughout life (citation powerpoint slide 23). So far, my father has done a great job as I feel very comfortable with my father, and we have great talks mainly involving sports. My parents have always been in my life, came to events of mine, and showed that they cared so the type of bond between my two parents and I is something amazing. My attachment style can affect my relationship a bit. I can sometimes see that when I am with my girlfriend, I am genuinely a more confident person but when I am without her, I sometimes struggle to find that same confidence.
So far in this course, I have found myself enjoying it more than I thought I would. This is one of the only Psych classes that I have ever had in college, so I was naturally nervous for the class but once I got to class and we started doing some things I found a level of comfort that just allows me to learn and have a good time doing it. I believe it’s because you have such a good balance of lectures but also watching videos and giving us time to think and discuss things about ourselves. I look forward to class and the people around me because there is always great energy in the classroom.
