April 26, 2024

SECTION 2: Learning in Universities and Adult Education
This section of your PhD comprehensive assignment examinations deals with theories, concepts, and practices in learning in universities and adult education. Based on what you learned in those program courses (check the syllabi) and on your own knowledge of the literature, respond to the following questions (20-30 pages maximum):
1. What are the challenges that graduate students face in American universities?
– Do the challenges faced tend to vary by based on national origin (I.e., American vs. international student in American), age, level of graduate study (I.e., master’s vs. doctoral), gender, race, ethnicity, or other demographics?
– How are these challenges similar to and different from those of undergraduate students?
2. How do graduate students succeed through these challenges?
– Do the ways that students succeed through the challenges differ by national (I.e., American vs. international student in American), age, level of graduate study (I.e., master”s vs. doctoral), gender, race, ethnicity, or other demographics?
3. So some graduate students fail to succeed these challenges?
– What seems to explain the lack of success?
– Do the demographic differences noted above seem to be relevant in this lack of success?
4. Do student attitudes toward challenges and their responses to the challenges appear to be important in whether the student succeeds through the challenges? Please explain.
SECTION 3: J-1 Scholars and J-1 Programs in the United States
In higher education, J-1 scholars can play crucial roles in research and practice. Based on existing relevant literature, explore and describe the nature of J-1 scholars and J-1 programs in the United States and respond to the following questions (29-39 pages maximum):
a. How can the value of J-1 scholars be described to academic departments that see international undergraduates as revenue generators and J1 scholars as a financial investment.
b. Does the Carnegie classification of a university drive the number of J-1 scholars invited to campus?
Please revise the papers according to the comments in the following files:
Section 2 March 12 UPS (1).pdf and  Section 3 March 12 UPS (1).pdf
most of the annotations is for revision only. There are two instances in Section 3 about J1 Scholars and International Undergraduate students that require Kate to research and write about what the faculty annotated, which is CALCULATE THE REVENUE GENERATION POTENTIAL
She needs to include at least the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and University of Southern Calculation data and calculation for at least each of these two.
the revenue calculation notes is on page 13 of Chapter 3. I think this is the part that requires more research to do the calculation.
Also page 15 there are some more notes for revision that needs updated information. Updated research. – page 15.
There is no revision to make from pages 16-28 On Chapter 3.
And she will also see that when she opens Chapter 3. Then Chapter 2 which does not seem complicated, but needs updated research information.
The faculty calls this Cahpter 2 confusing in several parts, not clear. I believe most of the revision is writing well, rewriting parts with notes from the faculty
She needs to know that the answers to the questions are for me to defend orally, so the argument needs to be clear and convincing. Now checking the two files we sent her, the initial questions that originated the writing in each part, is not in the file.
