Search for one academic article (e.g., scholarly journal article or book chapter) and then also
identify one cultural item (news or magazine article, image, video, podcast, blog item, etc.). The cultural
item must be accessible to everyone; for example, do not post items that exist behind a pay wall, require
a subscription, or an account (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, etc.). Your post should begin by clearly
identifying both items: For the academic article include the reference (APA format) and for the cultural
item include the applicable title and the link or source to where it can be found.
This information will then be followed by the content of your post where you will succinctly assess and
clearly demonstrate how the academic article and cultural item relates and connects to a specific
concept or a particular idea discussed in lecture and/or the applicable reading(s) for the date in question.
Excluding the references to the journal article and the cultural item, the content of your post should be
between 175 and 200 words. The substance of your post should seek to answer the basic objective of this exercise: How does the content of your post help us to further understand a key concept or idea
related to criminology?
Your post will be evaluated in accordance with the following criteria:
– Includes a relevant academic / scholarly article and a cultural item.
– Contains a very brief, succinct overview of a relevant course concept or key idea from the
applicable lecture and/or reading.
– Contains an informed description, makes insightful connections, and draws a specific
relation between each of the three required items (academic article + cultural item + concept / idea).
For example:
– How does the academic article and cultural item help to further clarify and understand your choice
of concept or key idea?
– How does the academic article and cultural item help to further illustrate, amplify and build on the
concept or key idea you have chosen?
– Invites a meaningful response or a further conversation.
– Proper spelling, grammar, composition and formatting.
– Adheres to the word count
