April 24, 2024

Science is continually evolving which impacts contemporary rehabilitation research and practice. Therefore, to stay current with these changes, each student is required to critique two research articles (to develop the annotated bibliography) from a professional, peer-reviewed rehabilitation/social work/case management journal. The research article MUST be related to case management in rehabilitation. Therefore, make sure to choose an article that you are interested in and able to understand and explain. (Hint: The articles can be articles gathered from your research paper).
WHAT IS AN ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY?
An annotated bibliography is a list of citations to books, articles, and documents. Each citation is followed by a brief (about 150 words) descriptive and evaluative paragraph, the annotation. The purpose of the annotation is to inform the reader of the relevance, accuracy, and quality of the sources cited.
THE PROCESS
Creating an annotated bibliography calls for the application of a variety of intellectual skills: concise exposition, succinct analysis, and informed library research.
1. Locate and record citations to books, periodicals, and documents that may contain useful information and ideas on your topic.
2. Briefly examine and review the actual items. Then choose those works that provide a variety of perspectives on your topic. Cite the book, article, or document using APA STYLE. The University of Purdue, online APA formatting and style guide: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/03/ – This link will show you an example of an annotated bibliography.
Scholarly research must be utilized. Examples include periodicals, journal articles, textbooks, etc. Wikipedia and SuperNanny.com is not considered scholarly!
3. Write two concise annotations that summarizes the central theme and scope of the book or articles in 150 word minimum.
The following information should be included in the annotated bibliography:
A. Title of article, name of Journal, and date of publication
B. Purpose of study or article
C. If the article is a research study, give a brief description of what was done (i.e., methodology).
If it is a conceptual article, please describe its key points.
D. Discuss conclusions reached in the article.
E. Describe how the article will be helpful to you and the field of rehabilitation, in general.
All research articles will be from a professional, peer-reviewed rehabilitation journal. A full APA reference must be provided for each research article (i.e., author’s complete name, title or article, the completed title of journal, date, and page numbers of the article). The APA reference and summary must be typed and submitted to Canvas with a copy of your article at the time of your online class oral presentation. The reference should be in APA Format.
The following criteria will be used to assign points for the research article critique:
A) Two concise annotated bibliographies of research articles in your own words (not the abstract recopied).A Rubric will be provided. The bibliographies are worth a total of 100 points total.
B) No abstract is needed, but PLEASE provide a title page.
Note: APA Manual 6th edition may be useful in ensuring appropriate APA style, or the use of an online resource will also be helpful. See link: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/614/01/
