Part 2 – M5: Vendor Research Phase
Review the Newville Clinic scenario, the needs assessment, and the information you gathered for your needs assessment. Review the instructor feedback from your needs assessment to complete the M5.3 EHR Vendor Selection.
Now, conduct research on three EHR vendors that you think would best suit the needs of your clinic. Your research may include phone interviewing vendors, web searches, or even site visits if geographically close.
Decide if you plan to meet meaningful use requirements and have a certified EHR. Review this resource to help you make this decision, but above all consider the needs of the clinic and population that you seek to address:
Certification Commission on Health Information Technology (Links to an external site.) (CCHIT): CCHIT is a nongovernmental organization that is the sole certifier of EHRs, with the purpose to certify EHR for functionality, interoperability, and security.
Identify three vendors to research. You have several ways to do this.
Review Health IT’s How to Select a Vendor (Links to an external site.) web resource.
If needed, you can also contact your Regional Extension Center (Links to an external site.) (REC) who can walk you through the vendor landscape and help you select an EHR. Your local REC can help you identify key vendor considerations and objectively identify the vendor product that best meets your unique needs. If you call your REC, remember to be professional and have your questions prepared in advance of the call.
You can also conduct an internet search for EHRs. Here are a few of the more popular ones:
Allscripts
athenahealth
Cerner Corporation
eClinicalWorks
Epic Systems
GE Healthcare
Greenway Health
Kareo
McKesson
Meditech
Dr.Chrono
Amazing Charts
NextGen
AdvancedMD
CareCloud
Use the EHR Comparison Form to complete your comparisons.
Lastly, write a summary of each vendor and what it has to offer. At the end of your report, recommend one vendor that you feel fits your organization the best, and explain why. Use your needs analysis to anchor your recommendation.
Your submission should be 3-4 pages in length (not including the title page and references), double-spaced, and in APA format.
Review the Newville Clinic scenario, the needs assessment, and the information you gathered for your needs assessment.
