Review the assigned poems from the syllabus. Select 4-5 assigned poems from the Poetry Unit that are similar in topic or characteristic. What do these texts have in common? If they are similar in topic, what topic do they share? If they are similar in characteristics, what elements of poetry do they share? Be specific.
Compare, analyze, and evaluate the commonality of these texts. Write an essay response of at least 350 words to discuss your claims. To receive full credit, be sure to appropriately cite each text in your response using MLA format.  Be specific when discussing your analysis. A Works Cited page is required.
When writing the essay, remember the following:
Essays have a proper heading (see the syllabus), a title that reflects your topic, and clearly organized paragraphs that align with the thesis statement.
The thesis statement should be identifiable in the introduction paragraph.
The essay body paragraphs should align with the thesis statement.
All essays require an introduction paragraph and a conclusion paragraph.
Use transition sentences to link paragraphs and ideas.
Refer to the syllabus for correct heading format.
Include the WORD COUNT at the end of your heading.
MLA formatting required pagination in the top right margin, double spacing throughout, and Title Case for text titles. Model after the syllabus when formatting titles of texts.
Proofread for spelling and grammar errors.
The Works Cited page is the last, separate page of the essay, and is not included for the word count.
Refer to the EO for MLA in-text citation formatting.
