Duties during internship: meeting the governor, organizing office, answering phone calls when no one’s in the office, writing thank you cards to visitors,taking notes on bills and conjuring up questions for guest speaking on bills, sending emails related to senators upcoming resources fairs and pertaining to donating certificates to graduates within the St.Louis area, doing follow up calls and emails
My experience
If I were to rate my experience it would be a 5/10 why? Due to the fact at times things can be last minute and no proper communication for example I’ve gone to the Capitol plenty of times when no one was in senators office and told at the last minute they were in a meeting or not in the office. At times there was not much to do but sit around. Non professional task being given such as being asked to do a task that is against the Missouri’s law. I also learned how to be more professional and to always smile. Being a senator takes a lot of taking and the fact you can have meetings back to back to discuss bills which means public speaking is a MUST.Even though they may not get along with one another in office you would always see someone smile. Politics can get messy and just not interested which I also found out you don’t need a college degree to be a governor! During my times there I worked on Business aspect behind the desk and enjoyed doing those task, mostly always finish my task on time.
Now what I can work on is time management. I know any professional level being on time is late and being early is on time! I could definitely work on that especially when landing an opportunity that consist my early arrival.
I didn’t particularly like not being paid for the internship but it was an experience to have.
