Respond to two classmates in around 150 words each and to use citation from the textbook.
The rubric says “Reply initiates dialogue with thoughtful and reflective comments and questions. -Reply acknowledges the statements of others in a way that builds a consecutive interchange and encourage classmates to think critically. -Reply is responsive to the statement and indicates that the student understood it and thought about it. -Demonstrates analysis of others’ posts; extends meaningful discussion by building on previous posts. -Also, examples are used to support response. -Postings support the creation of knowledge by going beyond what was in the readings and assignments or add insights taken from other classes, outside readings, and evidence based research. -When disagreeing, the student does it respectfully.” My post is in an attachment as well as the two you must respond to. Textbook is included so please use text from the textbook and follow the rubric guidelines. (textbook link: https://ebooksbrand.com/wp-content/uploads/woocomm)
Initial discussion instructions for clarificartion:
Purpose: As mentioned before, active learning activities are your opportunity to practice and apply the concepts discussed in your reading to class discussions. These action assignments will help you deepen your learning and help you become active, reflective, responsible, and successful learners.
Activity Overview: One of our big questions this week was, how do we define and measure intelligence? As we can see through our debate on whether intelligence is one ability or many, that little consensus exists even among experts about this question. Although intelligence tests measure only a narrow range of human cognitive capacities, we often use them to predict future success (such as academic and vocational). In this week’s active learning activities, you will have the chance to continue reflecting on how intelligence is defined and measured and discuss some of the factors that may influence intelligence. For example, we discussed very early in this course that cultural, economic, and historical contexts impact children’s development, but how do they impact intelligence tests?
Active Learning Activities:
- Option #1 -Complete active learning assignment located in our textbook (textbook link: https://ebooksbrand.com/wp-content/uploads/woocomm), called Defining Intelligence. This activity can be found in your textbook in the active learning section under learning objective 8.1 ()in the Defining Intelligence section). The instructions are also provided in your textbook and start with the following question, “how do you know when someone is intelligent?”After you complete the active learning activity, briefly summarize your experience and responses to the questions provided in the active learning activity. For example, be sure to include your three ideas of what makes someone intelligent and a brief description of how you would measure just one of the abilities you described. Also answer the following discussion questions: Based on your reflection and the information you learned this week, 1) How might educational experiences, culture, and home environment influence performance on intelligence tests? 2) Should IQ scores be interpreted with caution?
- Option #2 – Assessing Intelligence instructions are as follows: ViAssessing Intelligence instructions are as follows: Visit the following website: www.iqtest.com , which contains an online intelligence test. Please note that the test and results are free, and your score will be emailed to you. The site provides an option of a full IQ profile, which requires a fee. However, the full profile is not required for this activity. Also, you do not have to share your score for this activity. After taking the test, answer the following questions: 1) Do you think your performance on the IQ test is an accurate assessment of your intellectual ability? Why or why not? 2) Do you believe this test would accurately predict academic achievement? 3) Based on your reflection and the information you learned this week, how might educational experiences, culture, and home environment influence performance on intelligence tests? 4)Should IQ scores be interpreted with caution?
- Briefly explain.
- You can visit this link (Links to an external site.) to find out how to interpret your results, “How well did I do? What does my score mean?”
PLEASE NOTE, you only have to select one of the activities above.
