The importance of “spirit of inquiry” is that it leads to the process of ensuring that Evidence-Based Answers are provided, accurate, and reliable. According to Kaseka & Mbakaya (2022), “spirit of inquiry” is defined as “a process that leads to addressing clinical problems through evidence-based practice (EBP), asking the right questions in the right way, finding the best available evidence, and assessing what practice change may be needed”. The natural instinct of a nurse is having a caring mindset and compassion when helping others, so naturally when a nurse has a “spirit of inquiry” that nurse is have questions, concerns, and challenge traditional and existing practices, as well as seek creative approaches to problem-solving when providing patient care.
In nursing a spirit of inquiry is known as is a persistent sense of curiosity that informs both learning and practice according to Gao et al. (2022). As an advanced practice registered nurse, I would encourage the emphasis of this evidenced-based culture because healthcare is all about critical thinking and skill in different situations of patient care. I would challenge nursing staff to critically think of the different processes of nursing and how providing safe and quality patient care is important. The “spirit of inquiry” enables nurses to apply data-backed solutions that incorporate clinical expertise and current research into the decision-making process (Milgore et al., 2022). Advanced practice nurse roles expands as they further education and at this level challenging is like a second nature when critical thinking is involved.
