1. Innate defense mechanism is more important than adaptive defense mechanism , innate immunity is the first line of defence mechanism ,this type of immunity provides natural resistance against diseases , it is fast acting and non specific, everyday countless organisms attack our body but we don’t get sick, our body has army of cells which are always circulating in our system ready to kill or stop intruders without any differentiation ,this innate immunity is inherited from birth ,innate defense mechanism is capable of recognizing destroying and eliminating infectious organisms from our body ,it needs no activation this immunity need not be acquired.Being too clean is harmful for our immune system, to build immunity one needs to be exposed to environmental microbes in ever day life. especially it is very harmful for young children who depend a lot on their innate defense mechanism to ward off diseases ,in course of time our immune system learns what antigens are harmful and which needs to be ignored, if they are not exposed they might start violently attacking the harmless microbes, eventually doing more harm to the body.
2. Innate and adaptive immunity are both important in their own regards and there are clear differences that allow each to be more favorable for different reasons. We are lucky to have both working in conjunction with each other to provide us with the best possible immune system we could have. Having to pick one over the other I think I would have to go with innate immunity. When comparing the two there is a second level to innate immunity that acts very similarly to adaptive immunity. Through innate immunity we have a strong barrier to protect ourselves on an external level disallowing pathogens to enter. Beyond the external barrier there are secondary reinforcements internally that help us expel pathogens that may break through this barrier. The downfall here is that we are constantly having to fight off these pathogens starting from square one, unlike adaptive immunity there is no memory built up to help us elicit a faster and more effective attack coming into round two. Looking at the bigger picture I do think it is more favorable to have an A+ team from start to finish rather than the ability to build up a memory. I am a firm believer in the theory – ‘if you don’t use it you lose it’. This theory can be brought in two fold here, if we were to build a memory during an innate immune response how would this impact future responses? Sure we would be able to fight off a cold faster with possibly less symptoms but would we be using our skills or would we be relying on memory from last time, will we continue to improve, will we know what to do when a new more serious threat approaches? Secondly and to address if there is such thing as too clean – yes. If we are too clean we are not asking our immune system to function on any level. In some severe cases immunocompromised individuals live within a bubble because their body could not possibly respond to an external threat but what if we attempted to stay so clean we recreated a bubble effect? While no one wants to be in a heightened immune response at all times there are healthy bacteria that we need to survive and function. Beyond that we need our body to be able to provide an immune response when we come in contact with an external threat. If we suppress our own immune system so it never has to work at all we are doing ourselves a disservice and will be in serious trouble down the line. Part of the innate immune response is the elicit symptoms such as a fever, chills, vomiting, coughing, and inflammation; while these responses may be uncomfortable they are ultimately far better than the symptoms of the disease we could be encountering. Overall I think the combination of innate and adaptive immunity is a crucial part of our success and survival as a human race and think the stimulation of our immune response through bacteria is an crucial to the sustainability and growth of our immune system.
