Classmate I choose:I’ve been having an extremely hard time trying to think of a personal experience for this topic and honestly felt quite uncomfortable. I am not sure how I am going to approach week 3 topic 2 because as a service member we aren’t really supposed to comment on anything political especially the topics that are coming up in this next discussion.
I did think of a prime example where freedom is given up for the security of everyone. I want to start with, this is just an example and I totally agree with this process. Every time you step into an airport, your freedom is given for the security of everyone’s safety. You are forced to go through customs, and you must have zero weapons, they go as far as making you take off your shoes and get patted down at points. You then get all your baggage put through a x-ray machine to make sure you are not carrying anything you are not supposed to carry.
I’ve personally had to go through customs many of times and I also had to throw away my shampoo bottles a couple of times. My prospective on this process is totally positive. I completely agree with the x-ray machine. Topic 2. Respond to at least one of your classmates whose perspective is different from your own. Haynes, I do not agree with the government knowing our business in our phones. We have many departments like the FBI or CIA that are highly funded by the government for training and other means to get the job done. I wouldn’t feel safe living in a place where someone is hearing me planning lunch with another colleague. It would pretty ironic if we called ourselves “land of the free” but we have the government spying on what we do in our phones or laptop. In my opinion the United States should get with NATO and create a plan where you still respect your citizens privacy but also are able to intercept possible future terrorist attacks or cyber attacks.
Citizens finding out our government has lacked integrity has caused big trust issues in todays society. Everyday we go on our phones and laptop thinking “there’s probably someone watching me scroll through Facebook. Integrity means doing the right thing while no one is looking and our government failed to do that. I understand this is on a whole bigger scale, but at the end of the day its “we the people” not “we the government”.
