While working in the early childhood field, I have came across many ethical situations that require me to make a difficult decision when my personal feelings gotten involved. One time I had a little boy in my classroom he was so sweet and I truly adore him. He was my biggest helper and his mom was helpful as well in the beginning. I would’ve never thought that his mom was mistreating him. Yeah he came to school ever now and then with a smell and the same clothes he had on the day before but I just figured she might was running late to work or something. So, I never looked into it that much. I start brining him my son clothes he couldn’t fit anymore. I really came attached to the little boy. One day I start notice him stuffing food in his pocket after breakfast, lunch and snack and when he come back from weekend break it gets worse. He eat a lot and when he got full he’ll put the extra food in his pocket. This start happening very frequently, I was kind nervous to approach mom because I didn’t want to scare her and she stop bringing him. So, approach my supervisor and discussed all things I have noticed and I have written down. My supervisor felt that child wasn’t being neglected and the mother probably struggling. I stated to my supervisor that it’s not up to assume what’s going on we are mandated reporters and we see sign of neglect we supposed to report it. She was against 100%. I went against my supervisor orders and called the hotline for cps. I just to make sure the child was good.
How to manage the conflict
As HeadStart Program there are policies and procedures that must be followed regarding State guidelines. When you open that program you have to be licensed and that license book there many guidelines must be followed or you will be shut down. In that book we are mandated reporters as well ( nurses, doctors, all school administrators and police) there many more that falls under this category.

To ensure that services are being received is to follow your policy and procedures that are put in place to make sure your clients safe and secured. By calling that hotline that little boy was in a terrible situation once they came out to the home. Come to find out the we’re living in a abandoned home with no heat or running water some of the windows wasn’t there it had boards up. The mom, the little boys and his siblings was in a terrible situation after her husband was murder. So I absolutely did the right thing and glad I did what I did.
STANDARD 2 Human service professionals obtain informed consent to provide services to clients at the beginning of the helping relationship. Clients should be informed that they may withdraw consent at any time except where denied by court order and should be able to ask questions before agreeing to the services. Clients who are unable to give consent should have those who are legally able to give consent for them review an informed consent statement and provide appropriate consent.

A situation where my own personal and moral values could be in conflict with my professional ethical obligations is when a pedophile who has been formally charged with rape or incest and does not have any remorse and is at risk for repeating that same behavior.
I would manage this conflict and ensure that the service user will still receive appropriate services by putting my personal prejudices aside and would treat them without that prejudice getting in the way of treating them ethically and morally. I would consult with a colleague on the case while I would treat them to make sure that any prejudices that I may not have seen or are manifesting are recognized immediately and if so I would instantly refer the individual to a different counselor. The additional option would be that once I found out why the person was coming to see me I would immediately refer them to a different therapist. Furthermore, I would practice the ethical standards repeatedly and especially are mindful of Standard 7 that as a Human Service Professional to ensure that my values or biases are not imposed upon any clients that I see (National Organization for Human Services, 2015).
