CHAPTER 12 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY AND CHAPTER 13 PERSONALITY
1: The world of advertising and marketing is a great place to see concepts from social psychology put to use (for better or for worse). The advertiser’s job is, after all, to influence your attitudes, persuade you to purchase a product or vote for a candidate. For this discussion assignment, please find a few commercials and describe them using social psychological concepts/theories about behavior, attitudes, and persuasion.
2: Personality tests, such as the one you (should have!) completed for this module, often rely on self-report. For this option, take the personality test for yourself, and then have a friend (or relative) take it for you (answering the questions as if they were you). (You can also reverse roles if you want, having your friend take the personality test for themselves, and then you take it for them). How similar are the results? How well do the results align with the discussion from the textbook about the accuracy of personality tests?
3: What was the most interesting and/or surprising thing you learned from the assignments this week?
