This will be the first of 4 submissions for the Final Project process. In this submission, you will propose a 3 week plan explaining how you will conduct research on an organization that fought against/ is currently fighting against imperial decay/ imperialism in the Philippines. If you do not have an organization to propose at the moment, note that you must still submit a research plan outlining how you will target your potential organization.
For more details, navigate to the page “Final Project Details” in Module 4.

Final Project Details
Organizing against ruin
Throughout the course, we will examine different sites as “Imperial Ruins.” These ruins are, more or less, the continuing legacies of imperialism that continue to disrupt economic, political, and social progress in the Philippines.
Ann Laura Stoler states that imperial ruins act as a “corrosive process that weighs on the future and shapes the present.”
This course, however, should not just outline the terrifying affronts of empire against the Philippines. As critical thinkers who understand the role of the everyday person in history, we have been able to also highlight everyday peoples’ dissent, resilience, and rebellion against Imperial Ruins.
Our Final Project
In our Final Project, we will highlight particular organizations who have attempted to ameliorate, slow down, or entirely uproot the Imperial Ruins in the Philippines. You will choose ONE organization who has tried to accomplish such acts. The study can examine organizations that are now defunct OR organizations that are still alive and well.
STEP 1
Conduct preliminary research on organizations who have attempted to organize Filipinx/a/o peoples (either in the Philippines, in the diaspora, or globally) against any imperial ruin.
Choose ONE organization to study. Propose your research plan in week 7.
STEP 2
In weeks 7-9, work on three assignments associated with the Final Project:
A presentation of the organization. This presentation can be presented “Live” in class in Week 10 or can be recorded and submitted to Dr. Stef in Week 10.
A PowerPoint or another artistic form of presentation (ex: a zine, a film, a song, etc.) explaining the importance of the organization. These materials must be submitted to Dr. Stef in Week 9.
A 5-page paper providing an overview of the organization and how the organization worked against Imperial Ruin in the Philippines.
STEP 3
Submit the assignments in the modules to which they correspond:
Week 7: Submit a proposal of your research plan for ONE organization (details to be posted on Monday, 05/03/21)
Week 9: Submit presentation materials on your organization (details to be posted on Monday, 05/03/21)
