Research Paper:
First select a work from a
museum/gallery/architecture: your research must be a work (painting, sculpture, architecture, photograph, etc.), preferably a piece you have seen in person. At least 2 full pages, double spaced, 12 pt font, MLA format. Do not try to research several works of art for your paper.

Your research paper is worth 100 points.At minimum, this assignment requires the standard format of in Introductory Idea/Paragraph, followed by supporting paragraphs, and a conclusion paragraph—more than a short answer or a visual “poster-board presentation.”
You MUST create an outline for your research paper after your cover page and you MUST have a works cited page (minimum of 2 quality citations. Dictionary.com is not a quality resource). Your work will not be graded if either the outline or works cited material is missing.
Suggested information to include in your paper:
Description: Explaining a work of art from an objective point of view, its physical attributes, and formal construction. It is your job to analyze the elements and principles in the piece. Correctly use the vocabulary associated with the elements and principles of art. This is one of the major goals of the project. 35% of grade.
Analysis: A detailed look at a work of art that combines physical attributes with subjective statements based on the viewer’s original reaction to the work. 10%
Context: Any historical, religious, or environmental information that surrounds a particular work of art and which helps to understand the work’s meaning. 10%
Meaning: A statement of the work’s content. A message or narrative expressed by the subject matter. 10%
Judgment: A critical point of view about a work of art concerning its aesthetic or cultural value. Considering your research above, briefly summarize why you selected this artist to study. What are your reactions, responses to the piece? As you researched the work, did your opinions change? Did you organize a theme/focus based on your research? 35% of grade.
