Research and write a case study of a media organization/company. The choice of company depends on yourself – you can focus on any of the following: large traditional media organizations operating across multiple media platforms, small production companies creating audio or video content, one of the large online platforms, smaller application developers, online design agencies, one of the large traditional news media operating organizations, magazines or digital publications, online content creation agencies, advertising agents, public relations companies, or new startups creating promotional content for social/new media platforms. The key is that the company you are following is involved in some kind of media work.
lf you do choose to focus on a big organisation like the BBC or Al lazeera or Google, you need to identify a specifisector or division or service to analyse. You can’t just analyse the whole BBC or everything Al lazeera or Google does.
Your case study should outline a brief history of the company you’re analvsing and look at the kind of media work it doesand the audiences it targets, Crucialy, it should look at the organisation’s business model – how does it fund itself, howdoes it make money, where does its revenue come from. Use the knowledge you’ve gained from the first part of themodule here, You should focus, in particular, on developing a critically informed perspective on how the organisatiorvou’re analvsing has changed what it does in response to the rise of online and digital media technologies and how itmight change in future.
Your case study should also focus on the people who work for the company you’re analysing – or, rather, the kinds of jobsand career paths that are available there, Look, in particular at entry level iobs and placements and how you might find away to work for this company. in the appendices for the case study, you should include materials you could use to applyfor work at your chosen organisation – your Cy, a covering letter, details of any recent ads for iobs you find, contactaddresses to use to apply for placements.
