Requirements
Word Count: 1500 excluding references
Use Trimbur, Chapter 9: Commentary, for complete guidance (attached in the files).
Five (5) templates from They say, I say (attached in the files)
Your final essay will include a minimum of five templates from They say, I say, which you will use to make strong rhetorical claims in your commentary. Incorporating the templates effectively should help ensure that your final submission fits the genre.
Use all of these five templates. Those templates include (but aren’t limited to):
“They say” (Chapter 1: Standard View, Ongoing Debate)
“I say” (Chapter 4: Yes/No/Okay, but…)
“Plant a naysayer in your text” (Chapter 6, first half)
“Make concessions while standing your ground” (Chapter 6, second half)
“So what? Who cares?” (Chapter 7)
Note that you must use an actual template from the book. Only make minor adaptations (such as filling in the author’s name, changing pronouns to reflect the author). Simply writing “they say” or “but I say” isn’t actually using a template, so it won’t receive credit.
Six (6) Sources, minimum
Refer to the comments on the Annotated Bibliography. When presenting statistics (including the findings of surveys) prefer primary sources to secondary sources.
APA Style
Follow APA style, including the guidance provided during the in-class activity on applying the style advice to writing for the behavioral sciences.
Use the “Student Sample Paper.docx” template.
A note on using sources in another language
“Multilingual authors may cite works published in a language other than the language in which they are writing” (American Psychological Association, p. 301). Do rely on your strengths when conducting research. Follow the APA’s guidance (9.38 on p. 301, example 9 on p. 318) for citing sources in another language. Note that for the reference entry, the APA suggests “transliterations” instead of non-Roman alphabets when possible.
Topic
The attached file named ”bibliography” briefly explains the topic of the essay. You are free to change the name and the thesis statement to fit the topic more. Write about the negative side of fandoms and/or fanfiction, since most essays pray how fandoms and/or fanfiction positively impact people. Write the negative side of that. There are also a few sources that you can use.
