Requirements for your 8-10 slide presentation:
A cover slide where you name the national park, include the state where it is located and provide a photograph depicting a feature of the park.
Example: Lassen National Park, California.  I would also include an image of the bubbling mudpots.
A slide to address the geographic theme of location. Identify the absolute and relative locations of the park; provide at least one supporting map.
Example: Acadia National Park is located in the Northeast U.S., along the Atlantic Coast on the Gulf of Maine; it is directly east of Augusta, Maine’s capital city.  The absolute location is 44N, 68W.  I would also include a map of the park.
A slide to address what United States region(s) the national park is a part of. This includes geographic regions such as the Southwest, Pacific Northwest, etc., but can also include climatic region and/or biome(s).  Include at least one supporting visual such as a map of U.S. regions, a climograph, biome photograph, etc.
Example: Olympic National Park is located in the Pacific Northwest. The climate is largely Marine West Coast (cfb) but parts of the region are Mediterranean (csb).  I would continue with more details on the climate types and regions and provide a photograph of the temperate rainforest biome.
At least one slide to share research and discuss specific physical characteristics of the park in detail. What are the features?  How did they form?  What is their significance to the region?  Include at least one supporting photograph addressing the questions above.
Example: Carlsbad Caverns National Park is known for its caves, formed from the erosion of limestone over four million years ago.  As part of this slide I would also cover how the caves formed, as well as the decoration stage when stalagmites and stalactites grew.  To address significance, I would elaborate on the history of the Capitan Reef and include a photograph of a well decorated cave in the park.
At least one slide that explains how geographic processes are represented in the national park.
Example: Bryce Canyon National Park is known for its beautiful hoodoos, which are unique rock structures that formed through a 3 step process that includes sedimentary rock formation, uplift and erosion. I would continue to elaborate on what hoodoos are, how they were formed and what processes are occurring today.
A slide should evaluate examples of human-environment interaction that take place or have taken place in the park. This could include anything from the construction of dams to fishing to rock climbing or hiking.
Example: A portion of Virgin Islands National Park is underwater.  One unique example of human-environment interaction is snorkeling, in fact, the park even has an underwater snorkeling trail in Trunk Bay!  Popular activities at the park include snorkeling and hiking the numerous trails on the island of St. John.  Elaborating on these examples would be an appropriate addition to this slide.
A concluding slide that explains why you chose the national park and if this a park you would want to visit, why/not?
Example: I chose to complete my project on The Grand Canyon National Park because I would like to visit the park in the future and it is within driving distance of Moreno Valley.  I would like to visit the Grand Canyon because I have always had an interest in native cultures and the history of Native Americans in the region and how they lived off of the land interests me.  I would prefer to visit in the spring when the snow has melted but it isn’t as hot and dry as the summers in the park.
A bibliography slide that cites all sources used, in MLA or APA format.
Examples of MLA and APA citations can be found at Purdue’s OWLLinks to an external site.
