WEEK 2 DISCUSSION
COLLAPSE
Presenting Problem
There are many types of intervention that is applies to applied social psychology. Lodzinski, Motomura, and Schneider (2017), conduct research that focused on an intervention strategy that has been implemented on many college campuses to deal with the high rates of alcohol abuse. The authors defined intervention as a strategy or procedure that influence the behavior which the goal of improving the individuals level of functioning. The interventions used in this research are personal intervention, programmatic intervention and trail intervention.
Problem Causal Factors
This article indicates that there are two factors that may affect the problem causal factors. These factors includes precipitating factor which are factors that trigger a problem and perpetuating which are factors that sustain the problem which will prevent the problem from being resolved. After the problem causal factors has been identified a literature review is conducted to determine if the problem has already been address previously. If there were no previous solution that has been applied then one has to be developed.
Social Psychology Theories and/or models
There was a phenomenology model used in this study. The phenomenology model is a qualitative method that draw attention to an individual’s experience of a phenomenal. The author used surveys and interviews, the interviews was coded. The authors used the information from the survey and the interviews to design the intervention. A focus group was utilize which consist of students and teachers. The students and teacher evaluated the videos that was used in this study. A thematic analysis was used to help identify themes.
Intervention Goals and Objectives
As I mentioned earlier in the first program the uses personal, programmatic and trails interventions. Personal intervention are what an individual uses on a daily basis. With this intervention the individual applies their own skill set to help improve his or her own situation or situations that happens within the environment that he or she is in. The programmatic intervention are used on a program level which uses structured collections of activities to reach the goals that has been set. These goals and objectives are design to address social and/or practical problems. Trail intervention looks for positive outcomes for the intervention that has been applied which is called program efficacy studies.
Intervention Activities
The key steps of the interventions that has been used for programs are identifying the problem, arriving at a solution, and setting goals, designing the intervention and implementing the intervention. Problem are identified by stakeholders within the community that has an interest in the program. The Stakeholders role is to identify problems that exist. Once the problem has been identified the goal is to come to a solution on how to resolve the problem. When determining a solution an individual has to determine factors that influenced the unwanted outcome. When the needs has been identified, an individual has to set goals and design the type of intervention that is needed. After all of these steps has been completed there is an implementation of the intervention that has been determined. Evaluation are used to help assess the effectiveness of the intervention that has been applied. The different types of evaluations are process evaluation, outcome evaluation, and developmental evaluation.
