The emerging technology for healthcare is bridging the gap for the areas that could not receive healthcare services due to distance, lack of transportation, or available providers in their area. Telehealth, one of these services, was ultimately a great benefit during the pandemic. Enable providers to see patients during the shutdown and provide all preventive and follow-up care services to be provided. Under HIPPA, PHI is to be protected information and only to be disclosed to those caring or rendering services to the patients; this information is to be safeguarded to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the PHI while in the provider’s possession (HIPAA journal, 2022). EHRs are an extension of the healthcare IT department, which will have installed firewalls, cryptography, and antivirus software to help prevent breaches that cause patient privacy and confidentiality to be compromised (Kruse et al., 2017). As a provider, one measure that I can implement in my practice to protect patient privacy and confidentiality is to encourage my staff to make sure to lock computer screens when they are attended, have the screensaver automatically come on after 30-60 seconds, and the computer to lock after no activity for 3 minutes automatically.
