2. Review the following patient scenarios:
Scenario 1: Preston is a 22-year-old male who was recently diagnosed with HIV and hepatitis C. He is very upset by his diagnosis and concerned that his family will find out about it and disown him. He has a supportive partner, who also has HIV. Preston has many questions about the diseases and whether he will die.
Scenario 2: Julia is a 61-year-old female who you see during an annual physical visit. She was recently widowed after being married for 35 years. She is tearful during the visit and admits to feeling very depressed and hopeless. When you are discussing recommended health screenings with her, she says there really is no need at this point because she doesn’t care if she lives or dies. Her daughter is also present for the visit, and the daughter is angry with her mother when she makes this statement.
Scenario 3: Sophia is a 19-year-old female who presents for her first OB visit. She is married to a man stationed overseas in the Air Force. She is approximately 18 weeks pregnant and very happy. She is worried about being a single parent until her husband returns from his tour of duty, and she has many questions about how to be a good mom.
3. In a post to this discussion, reply to each of the patient scenarios by providing an appropriate response that includes elements of warmth, respect, empathy, genuineness, and self-disclosure. Each response should be in paragraph form, with each of the required elements clearly identified. For example, you can put the element in parentheses after you explain how it would be demonstrated, or you can start a new paragraph that explains how each element was used in the response.
