In your reading for this week you learned about the importance of listening. This post will help you to practice and reflect on this skill in a real life context. This is an experiential post–requiring you to go do something then write about your experiences and link them to the course material (here, that would be your conflict chapter).
Go over the material for this week and think about which of the listening skills discussed come more or less easily to you (e.g., giving good feedback, listening without interrupting).
Find someone to practice your listening skills with (e.g., a friend or family member, maybe a significant other or roommate). Tell them you will give them the gift of 15 minutes of you being a good listener and they can talk about anything they want to. You might want to brainstorm topics beforehand with them so they feel less awkward.
In your post, reflect on what this experience was like for you and how it might be different from the type of listening you typically do? Which bad habits of listening discussed in the reading are the ones you’re most likely to fall into? Make sure to use specific terms from the text and cite them appropriately
