Post from Cindy:
Social media has evolved rapidly within the last 20 years. It is one of the biggest social interactions we have with others. We can keep in touch with family members that are far and old friends from school. It is also a great informational tool. Delivering rapid information to millions in seconds. However, social media can be deceiving. How often do people post about the reality of a bad day. Most people try to present their social roles in an overly positive way. Some even misleading the truth. The social institution of social media is to show what people want to see, many profiting from it.
The idea of our social media continuing after death is actually a bit disturbing to me. Although I see how interesting the idea is, it wouldn’t be something I would be interested on. The virtual personality of a person involves their passions, likes, family and trends. The idea of an artificial intelligence to determined what we would like or believe in seems far-fetched. How often do advertisements pop in our sites with things we might be interested on, but we aren’t. I also think this idea might be hurtful to those grieving the person gone. Seeing the generated post of their dead loved one may cause more pain. Many use social media as an outlet to forget and get lost in a virtual reality. Although the idea of our virtual personality to live on sounds interesting, I think it may have a lot of negative and inaccurate outcomes.

Post from Jacolby:
Social media, phones, computers, and almost all technology have some way of remembering you. In today’s society, social media is like the direction to being yourself. Based on your last searches, based on your likes, and the pages you visit, the internet has created a whole digital profile of you, that might not even be correct. We have always been warned to watch what we put on the internet, it will never go away. Everyone on social media has their digital personality, when on social media the “looking-glass self” term comes into play, you don’t wanna look bad in person so on social media you tend to add to your social role to look for intriguing. Social integration is also increased on social media, now you can connect with different personalities all over the world and join virtual groups. When you die your personality still lives. The remembrance of you is your personality still living. When your family and friends start to think about you they will remember your personality, what made you laugh, how you laughed, when you got sad, and how you acted when you were excited. When we are on social media we are creating a personality for the computer and the user to remember, and possibly could create a digital file of you based on the personality you created online.
