Monthly Sales and Operations Planning are key to forecast demand, thus helping to forecast demand planning. To get a better idea of a forecast, it is important to calculate simple moving averages, weighted moving averages, exponential smoothing, and finally calculate the error. For this discussion, do the following:
Create an excel worksheet with 3 years of quarterly sales or revenue from a publicly-traded company. Add the name of the company you chose on the top of the worksheet.
Do a simple moving average, a weighted moving average: Use weights of .60, .25, & .15 with heaviest weight on most recent period, exponential smoothing and calculate the forecast error. For full credit, do all calculations using excel formulas.
For the discussion, post two or three paragraphs (approximately 500 words) explaining how the sales or revenue results will affect the demand planning for the company. Post your comments do not attach word documents.
