critic(s) might be interested, your impression of what the poem is about, etc. The poem
was written in the mid-1800s, when science was making great advances and many new
theories (like Darwin’s Theory of Evolution) were challenging traditional religious beliefs.
Dover Beach is an actual beach on the English Channel, surrounded by white chalk cliffs
and looking toward France, which is sometimes visible (as Catalina is to us from our coast).
