q/a session notes:
– a speilberg movie you do not see often
– first aired in 1971
– the lady with the snake part really stuck with him
– alot of speilbergs movies are infleunced by the fact that he was bullied in highschool, in this film the big semi truck personifies it.
– connected to the other speilberg films, the shot design is very purposeful and almost like affade in. he shot this movie entirely on location, putting the cameras in the back seats and using a rig that has been built for the move bullet. they shot for about 12-13 days in California,
– the telefoto lens does a good job with the movement and makes the truck seems closer and the cars look faster.
– speilberg cut 50% off the dialogue from the script, he calls it his silent movie.
– he builds up the tension in the dinner when he is trying to decipher who is possibly the killer
– the whole scene with the school bus was added in to make it longer
my reactions:
– i thought that the lack of dialouge added to the tension of the film
– the pov of the mans bumper of his car in the beginning adds to the thrill.
-talk about the aspects of cinematography- this is super important
