BACB Task List 5th Edition Content Areas Addressed: F-8: Conduct a functional analysis of problem behavior.
Activity
- Read the article “Functional Assessment of Problem Behavior: Dispelling the Myths, Overcoming Implementation Obstacles, and Developing New Lore” by Hanley, 2012. Hanley 2012 Myths of FA Procedures-1.pdf
- Select a practicing BCBA (it cannot be your Co-Instructor for this course, but it may be your Supervisor for Fieldwork hours) to interview live (virtual via Zoom, in person, or on the phone – please no email interviews!).
- Write up at least 4 questions to ask the BCBA about their practice of using FAs – refer to the Hanley 2012 article for some good ideas on the kinds of questions you may want to ask.
- Submit a document that includes the BCBA’s name, the state where they practice, the type of practice they do, the year they were certified or how long they have been a BCBA, the date of the interview, the questions you asked and the responses received.
- A 1-2 sentence summary of what you learned from the interview is also required. This summary must refer to either the Hanley 2012 article, to the Cooper text chapter on FAs, or both. A proper APA formatted citation is required.
