The purpose of this assignment is to highlight the necessity to directly teach adaptive behavior, social skills, and/or daily living skills. You will target a specific skill and design a lesson addressing the area of need.
Directions:
You will design a mini-lesson (approximately 10-15 minutes) on a social skill (or adaptive behavior) concept or skill. You will use one of the Instruction Plan templates provided in the module resources. Final submission will include the Instructional Plan, your Rationale & Next Steps.
The instructional plan for the mini-lesson must include specific outcomes/objectives for the lesson, formative assessment appropriate for collecting student data to demonstrate progress toward the outcomes, learning activities aligned with effective strategies for teaching the concept or skill, HLP focus areas, and UDL practices.
The lesson demonstrates effective practices for teaching the concept/skill, models practices related to HLPs, and reflects integration of UDL practices.
The one-page rationale includes a concise learner profile including any data or IEP goals that have informed the learning design. Further, student data is collected and used to inform and articulate instructional next steps. Also includes a reflection on the effectiveness of the overall lesson and EBPs and HLPs may also inform instructional next steps.
