The purpose of Informatics Self-Assessment Paper is to perform a self needs assessment regarding informatics in nursing, identifying areas that need improvement.. This assignment is intended to allow you to show evidence of achievement of:
CLO: Examine the impact of policy and politics in the healthcare system
CLO: Discuss how policies and politics impact the ability to implement your personal philosophy of nursing
CLO: Describe avenues available through which the nurse can influence policies and politics keeing in mind their professional covenant with the public

Requirements
Informatics involves the use of information and technology to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision making.
A competency is the capacity to use related knowledge, skills, and abilities that are essential to successfully perform critical functions in the work setting. Competencies are the foundation of skill standards that detail the level of knowledge, skills, and abilities required for success in the workplace. Nursing Informatic competencies in the following table provide the criteria for assessing the capability of the professional nurse to function in the specific role.

Review the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) competencies for informatics knowledge, skills, and attitudes in the table above.
Select one competency from each area of knowledge, skills, and attitude (3 total) that you feel you could improve upon in your practice. Provide a rationale as to why you selected this competency for yourself.
Utilizing a minimum of 3 evidence-based, peer reviewed references describe how the chosen resources will help to improve your understanding and application of the identified competencies. Each resource must clearly provide support applicable to the competencies.
Determine a goal or outcome as to how you will self-assess your professional growth. You will need a minimum of one goal for each competency (3 total). You might participate in something that demonstrates your knowledge or volunteer for a committee to apply your knowledge. This is highly individualized based on your self-assessment including where you work, what you do and the opportunities available to you.
Provide a time frame for mastering each of your chosen competencies (3 total). This could be as simple as stating when you would like to complete a learning activity, or when you could implement the change into your practice. The time frame must be achievable (e.g., stating one week to achieve competency in a complex skill would not make sense).
Basically you are applying the nursing process to yourself based on your needs assessment.
You should have a minimum of three references no older than 5 years. This is a WAC assignment and must be 1000+ words not including the title page, abstract, or reference page. APA format is expected. A grading rubric has been included in this syllabus. Contact the writing lab if you desire input or require help with your APA formatting.
