Purpose:  The purpose of this assignment is to create a document, resume or CV, that highlights your skills and sells them to the employer search committee.  While I will be reading your resume, the intended audience is the search committee that will read it and figure out whether you are a good fit with the position.
Instructions: Before beginning a draft resume, please visit the career development page to view sample resumes, watch the videos, and attend class.  In class we will discuss resumes that may be a good fit, depending on your experience.  If you are planning on applying for graduate school after your finishing your undergraduate degree, you can do a CV instead.
For this assignment you will draft a resume or CV that includes the following information:
• Name and email at the top of the page (include your phone number unless you are posting your resume to a job board—then leave it off
• Relevant Skills (use power statement which include adjectives)
o Try to be as specific as possible 
• Languages you speak other than English
• Work experience (put your most recent job first, unless the skills do not apply to the current position.
o If you have a lot of work experience that is applicable, you can pull out the relevant experience and put it at the top.
• Education

Headings
Each section should have a heading and that heading should stand out.  I would recommend a font size one size larger than the rest of the text.  
Font Size and Style
For this assignment, you want to make sure that you are using the same font throughout the document because you want the document to look consistent.  Some acceptable fonts include: Ariel, Calibri, and Times New Roman.  Usually, the appropriate font size will be 11 or 12 pt. font for the body and 14 pt. font for headings.  If your font is too small, it will be hard to read and if it is too large, it looks like you are trying to fill space.
Spacing
It is good to have some white space on your resume so that it doesn’t look too cluttered.  White space helps the reader skim the resume and hone in on the most important skills.
Templates
Look through the templates on the St. Kates website to find a resume format that looks like it will fit well with your experience but don’t download and use a template; instead, look at the format and follow it on your own.  Templates can be hard to add content to and change content later.
Grading 
You will be graded on the following criteria:
Appropriate Sections (10 points)
• Did the student include the appropriate sections on their resume or CV? Did each section contain the correct information? Did the skills section include adjectives?  Was the resume or CV tailored to the specific job?
Organization (5 points)
• Was the resume organized and make sense?  Was the resume easy to read; for example, was there enough white space? 
Grammar and Spelling (5 points)
• Was grammar and spelling checked or were there errors on the document?
