Purpose: Online reading circles allow groups of four (in some cases, five) students discuss/record their conversations about Reinking and von der Osten’s Science and Technology resources. Reading circles supports student analytical practices for effective reading, evaluation, and synthesis strategies as explained in both required textbooks. Reading circles help prepare students for writing the Narrative Essay in Phase Three and the Critical Synthesis Outline and Essay due in Phase Four.
Skills: Employ reading strategies to analyze resources on the topic of MEDICINE. Apply quality writing strategies to demonstrate your synthesis of resources  as you judge and evaluate their views about MEDICINE:
Lexi Krock “Accidental Discoveries” page 501.
Elizabeth Millard “A Pain Pill Among Friends: The Quick and Quiet Way Young People Are Getting Hooked on Opioids” page 509.
Study and Preparation: As a researcher advancing the ideas you might need copious notes that suit your purpose. I developed my Triple Entry Journal Method for organizing information that situates Reinking and von der Osten’s reading approaches quite nicely. I have posted my in TEJ templates  for  Krock and Millard in Modules. You may access and modify them as needed. My TEJ system is perfect for analyzing the author’s writing strategy and making critical evaluations. My system correlates perfectly with Reinking and von der Osten’s explanations of reading processes specifically designed for analyzing each reading selection based on the author’s main writing strategy. Read the overview of their reading strategies in the SFSW on page 465, which previews their specialized reading approaches listed at the beginning of each reading section categorized  by main writing strategy. You should follow their reading processes as you take notes using the TEJ method or another that serves your research purposes. A strong research practice will ensure you are prepared for fulfilling the role for each circle meeting
