PUBLIC HEALTH ESSAY ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
The purpose of this assignment is to help you consider your public health career goals and answer the question, “What is public health?”. This is also an opportunity to explore how public health fits into your life. If you are a Master of Public Health student, this paper will meet your Gate 2 requirement. This assignment meets course learning outcome A.
INSTRUCTIONS
For this assignment, you will write a 5–7 page research-based paper, not including the cover page, abstract, and reference page, describing the practice of public health and how a public health degree relates to your career goals. The paper must provide insight into your understanding of the scope of public health practice and the importance of community interventions to solve population-based problems
The paper must use current AMA format and include at least five peer-reviewed or governmental sources. Sources must be less than five years old.
In a 5-7 page AMA style paper, excluding the title page, reference page, and abstract:
• Describe the scope of public health practice. (Hints: Review the 10 essentials of health.)
• Provide a summary of your professional goals and how your thoughts about how a public health degree relates to those goals and might advance a career in public health. (Note: If you are not a public health major, how might public health knowledge help you in your career or life?)
• Include 5 peer-reviewed or governmental references required that are less than five years old.
