1. A topic sentence. This topic sentence must introduce your selected text, its writer, and give your reader a clear sense of your stance (the direction your response is headed).
2. Direct evidence from your text to support your claim. Be sure to use quotations when citing your text and include page numbers. 3. Analysis of your evidence. Provide your reader with a clear sense as to why this information supports your claim.
4. A concluding sentence. A final sentence that somehow brings your response to the prompt back into focus.
5. A strong demonstration and incorporation of the Invisible “I” Method.
6. Free of typo and grammatical error. Read through your response and make sure it’s as polished as possible.
7. Proper MLA formatting of your quote and citation.
8. Proper framing of your quote. Don’t just drop it in.
