Respond to this discussion. 100 words.
For this discussion, I decided to chose a role model of mine, my mom. My mom is very detailed and plan oriented, unwilling to meet a lot of new people, and pragmatic. In order to look at her behaviors from an interactionist perspective, we must understand what this perspective entails. According to out text Social psychology, interactionist perspective is an emphasis on how both an individual’s personality and environmental characteristics influence behavior (Kassin et al., pp 14). Looking at my mother’s behavior from this perspective, my mother’s environment growing up influenced her being detail and plan oriented. My grandmother has this same trait and instilled this in her. She is also the oldest child of three. She is the “responsible one”. She took being the big sister very seriously and made sure she imitated her mother. The second behavior, unwilling to meet a lot of new people, could be cause by her living by herself. My mother and father split up when I was young and when I moved out to go to college, she had the dog and herself. Being by herself for so long, she has been comfortable living on her own and not willing to let anyone into her life that wasn’t already part of her life beside my friends’ parents. The last behavior, being pragmatic, could be caused by her profession. She was a lawyer before retiring. Lawyers look at things in a very black and white manor, the law is the law. Spending so much time studying law and working with people who view the world the same way as her has shaped this behavior over her career and later in life too.
