Prompt:
While social media participates in enabling media bias through algorithms, echo chambers, and emotional headlines, it’s can also play a big role in combating it. What are some ways in which social might help dispel some of the myths perpetuated by mainstream media? Incorporate specific, real-world examples.

Don’t omit appropriate background information, leave out the thesis statement or provide one that doesn’t have a clear, relevant claim and rationale.
Body paragraphs (3-4 paragraphs)
Begin with clear, forceful topic sentences that clearly stem from your thesis statement
Provides any additional explanation required to fully understand the topic sentence
Utilize appropriate transitions, both in the topic sentences and throughout the paragraph
Contain support through relevant quotations/paraphrases from appropriate sources
Integrate quotations by embedding them into a sentence or introducing them with a signal phrase
Utilize thoughtful analysis to demonstrate how your support helps to prove your topic sentence, and thus your thesis statement
Some major things to avoid:
Starting the paragraph with a quotation or paraphrase from another source
Not including at least one quote or paraphrase in the paragraph for support
Concluding the paragraph with a quote/paraphrase
Simply repeating the quotation in your analysis–make sure you’re including useful/thoughtful analysis!
Represents an opposing perspective through the inclusion of a counterargument paragraph that contains both a counterargument and a rebuttal

Briefly recaps your essay
Explains how/why it is relevant (Why are you arguing this? What’s the point?)
Don’t simply restate the argument–indicate the implications of your argument and show how it can affect the reader.
Incorporates 3-4 sources
You may use the same sources you used for Essay 2
You must incorporate at least one new source that was found through individual research using the LATTC Library Databases
Avoid using any sources that are not at least considered Tier 2 or higher. Obscure blogs, sensational news outlets, etc are not acceptable sources.
MLA format throughout
Thorough, complete Works Cited page (in MLA format)
Failure to do so will result in point deduction.
Minimal grammar errors and appropriate, clear, college-level prose
Major things to avoid:
PLEASE do not include any personal pronouns (I, my, our, we, your, etc). It affects the tone of the paper.
Run-on sentences (if that’s your habit, try writing shorter, clearer sentences).
Incomplete sentences (make sure each sentence has a subject and a verb!)
Informal or conversational words/phrasing (wanna, gonna, etc)
Overly emotional tones
When quoting in the paragraph please put quotation marks.
