Prompt: Write an essay in which you analyze how a literary element or elements contribute to the theme of coming-of-age in To Kill a Mockingbird (if you’ve been doing the CRAs this should be easy…).
How to get started:
Start by identifying at least 3 quotes/passages from the book where there is a coming-of-age moment (you should have MANY already marked).
Identify a literary element featured in each quote/passage you find.
Analyze each quote/passage to explain how the literary element featured in the passage contributes to the theme of coming-of-age.
Due date: Friday 5/24 by 11:59pm.
Requirements:
4-5 paragraph essay (intro, 2-3 body paragraphs, conclusion)
NOTE: If you feel the need, you could have more than 3 body paragraphs as long as your work is still concise.
NOTE: I am not setting limits on how many pieces of evidence per paragraph. You might have one piece or you might find multiple coming-of-age quotes that feature a particular literary element and therefore include multiple quotes per paragraph. It is up to you how you structure your work.
Your intro should include the typical “stuff”: title + author, short summary of the book in your own words, your thesis statement in which you argue which literary element(s) contribute to the theme of coming-of-age.
At least 3 quotes/passages that you’ll analyze in terms of literary elements and coming-of-age.
Typical evidence → analysis progression in your body paragraphs.
