Prompt: In this Profile Essay, you will create a portrait of a hoax, con, or confidence artist. Profiles, as you’ve read, may analyze, entertain, provoke, or simply inform. The profile doesn’t have to shape the view of the subject as positive or negative, but it does need to communicate the unique features of the subject to a chosen audience.
Your profile should include:
descriptive, sensory details
direct quotations related to the topic
evidence and insight from various sources
anecdotes to show the readers necessary background
And these should lead readers to a particular emotional response to, fresh take on, or logical conclusion about the subject.
Format: Your final draft should be at least 5-6 full pages or 1500-1800 words (double-spaced, TNR font, 1” margins). Note that the works cited page does not count toward the length requirement. Grading Criteria: In brief, your essay should
Present a focused profile
Use reasoning and evidence to support your position
Use a respectful tone and establish common ground with potentially opposing audiences
Use research that is properly cited following MLA guidelines
Include at least four (5) sources, at least three (3) of which must be scholarly (the texts in your book are not scholarly)
Be meticulously edited and proofread
