PROJECT
The purpose of this assignment is to recognize the difference between a credible and non-credible source for medical/health information.
This project is designed:
To familiarize students with the various tools and research materials available within the library and Online, and to locate information in specific relation to cardiology.
To share information with your instructor and classmates on how to evaluate sources of medical information and determine their credibility.
Required Presentation Information
Create a hypothesis that relates to cardiac issues and compare and contrast the information from both credible and non-credible sources.
Make sure you relate your topic to the cardiovascular system and what you are learning in the course.
Example:  Is chocolate a healthy heart nutrient; if so which type is the best for your heart.
Other topics may include:
Butter or margarine
Aerobic exercise or strength training
Alcohol or no alcohol
Nutrition or supplements
Estrogen or hormone replacement treatment (HRT)
Various types of diets
You do not have to pick one of the above topics; these are just examples.
BE CREATIVE with this assignment, HAVE FUN with this assignment and most of all LEARN SOMETHING NEW ABOUT YOUR HEART HEALTH!
Students should have their topic approved by the time we meet in the library so that you can begin your research.
Locate three to four different resources. Acceptable resources include magazines, medical reference books, professional (peer-reviewed) journals and articles, and Internet resources with copy right dates no older than 5 years. Your project must include both credible and non-credible resources. Prepare a written summary, 2-3 pages in length, clearly identifying the references you selected to evaluate and explaining how you determined the credibility of each reference. Compare and contrast the types of resources (how were they alike? different? in terms of content and scope), the intended audience (i.e. was it designed for consumers or designed for health care professionals) and the quality/credibility of the information in your sources. Correct spelling and grammar is required. Your resources should be cited on a separate reference page at the end of your paper using APA style guidelines.
LIBRARY SESSION
The reference material you evaluate will include: Internet sources, magazines, medical reference books (print or electronic), professional (peer-reviewed) journals and articles (print or electronic). All print, database and Internet resources must have copy right dates or publishing dates no older than 5 years.
