Overview
As nurses, we are responsible for advocating for others to improve health outcomes. Through this assignment you will implement the steps involved in identifying areas where social justice and health equity are in need of advocacy methods. In understanding these steps and processes, you will be able to incorporate these actions into your practice to begin addressing the improvement of health outcomes within your community. You have completed formative assignments to help prepare you for this, so you will have a clinic and vulnerable population in mind to get started.
Scenario
Note: Students should not physically visit a physical clinic site or contact it in any way to complete this project.
You plan to volunteer at a local healthcare clinic that offers free or affordable care to its community. The clinic management has asked for your guidance on decreasing health vulnerability associated with one of the populations it serves. You have been asked to prepare a presentation with your proposed solution. They have asked you to include a proposed solution to address social justice or health equity, a political or organizational advocacy method, and an explanation of how the proposed solution connects to global health initiatives.
Directions
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation that addresses the following criteria for the selected clinic. Be sure to keep text to a minimum on the slides and provide depth and detail in your speaker notes. Refer to the Supporting Materials section below for additional information. You must cite at least five current scholarly sources. To be considered current, scholarly sources must have been published within the last five years.
1. Social Determinant of Health: Describe a social determinant of health (SDOH) related to a vulnerable population within your geographical area. Be sure to include the following:
A. Clinic name and location
B. A social determinant of health on which to focus
C. A vulnerable population that experiences the social determinant of health
2. Health Inequity Factors: Describe how social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors contribute to health inequities within the identified area.
3. Positive Impacts: Explain any positive impacts on individual health of the selected vulnerable population’s social determinant and culture.
4. Negative Impacts: Explain any negative impacts on individual health of the selected vulnerable population’s social determinant and culture.
5. Global Impact: Explain the connection between a Healthy People 2030 Social Determinants of Health Workgroup goal and objective and specific needs identified at the chosen health clinic.
6. Initiative: Propose a solution to improve social justice or health equity for the vulnerable population. Be sure to include the impact the solution can have on the area of need.
7. Advocacy Method: Describe an advocacy method (e.g., lobbying, strategic alliance, public awareness campaign) to raise awareness of the clinical strategy recommendation. Be sure to include the target audience.
8. Influential Factors in Advocacy: Discuss how the recommended advocacy method is impacted by bias, values, or beliefs. Be sure to address one impact for each of the following:
A. Local population
B. Individual (you)
C. Political organizations

To complete this project, you must submit the following:
Your submission should be a 10- to 15-slide PowerPoint presentation with separate title and reference pages that are not part of the page count. create a template of your own. Audio can be recorded optionally. Include detailed speaker notes with your presentation. Follow APA style standards for formatting and citing your sources.
