Assignment
Your final Project for the course is to create a text that adds to the discussion or knowledge base of a chosen discipline or discourse community. For this assignment, you will focus on becoming a credible contributor to this field of discussion, assuming the role of an informed and ethical expert communicating valuable information in ways that meet discipline standards.
Your text should address an issue of relevance and importance to the community/discipline you have chosen. Most likely, this issue will be some unresolved/ongoing problem or question within that community.
You can create a text in one of the approved modes listed above. No matter which mode you choose, your work should seek to meet the standards of informed, expert, ethical discourse in that community. Successful projects will carefully match the project’s mode with the text’s subject matter, tone, and purpose.
Project Structure
Since the project can take one of the modes listed above, it is difficult to provide a single structural outline that fits all possibilities. We will specify guidelines for the differing modes in our class discussions and resources.
However, some elements will be required across all modes.
A thesis claim that clearly identifies the community/discipline being addressed; the issue being discussed; and any position, stance, or central claim about that issue.
Presentation of any background information and context that shows a complete, discipline-standard understanding of this issue.
A well-structured examination of the issue, one based on research and demonstrating critical thinking.
An intentional effort to meet or exceed the aesthetic, rhetorical, and ethical standards of the community/discipline being addressed.
Strong, effective research that incorporates the research techniques and practices we have developed over the semester.
At least five credible sources integrated into the text being created, with clear and proper attributions, in-text citations, and a Reference page in APA format.
Multi-modal essay that incorporates disciplinary elements ( I’m doing this)
Must include at least one carefully created original multi-modal element that meaningfully enhances the audience’s understanding of the main text
The element could exemplify, illustrate, transform, or investigate the material of the main text, or engage in some other kind of deeper analysis of the main text’s points.
Must be accompanied by a written analysis (at least 200 words) discussing the use, creation, or selection of the multi-modal element(s).
Must include an APA References page citing the sources used to support the claims made in the text
