Progress Report due April 18th
The progress report should be five pages long, with each section labeled and using Arial or Times
New Roman font, size 10-12.
Project Description includes:
• Objectives or Specific Aims
o “The Specific Aims page demonstrates a problem, a gap in current knowledge, and
suggests a solution. It proposes aims that work toward a defended solution and reveal the proposal’s impact on the problem, the field, and future research.” (Monte and Libby, 2018)
• Significance of the research or Background
o What is the Big Picture? Why would anyone invest time and money to conduct this
experiment or to read about it?
• Research Question(s) or Hypotheses
o What are the specific research questions; are they clearly stated in terms of
testable hypotheses?
• Research Approach or Experimental Plan
o Briefly describe (when relevant) the study organism/ subject, the locality, and the
timeframe.
o Brieflydescribetheproceduresfollowedandthedataanalysistoolsused.
• Broader Impacts
o Provide a summary of the main results and explain what you think the results will
be.
• Implications
o When discussing the implications, it is important to connect them to the overall
results and provide a clear takeaway message.
