Primarily using peer-reviewed scholarship, as well as the additional credible sources you collected, write an essay between 1,800 – 2,000 words that presents a focused and well-supported position resolving your problem.
The Solution paper expects an argument. Good arguments are written by people with strong ethos; those that have a degree of trustworthiness and authority, like the type gained through extensive research. Quality research will also help you improve pathos. You have to understand the values of the people involved in order to connect with them. Most importantly, academic writing favors logos. Peer-reviewed scholarship overwhelmingly privileges methodology and verifiability. Without a strong foundation of reasons and evidence, your voice will not be heard.
Requirements:
1,800 -2,000 words of essay content (word count of works cited page not included)
A clear position attempting to resolve a problem.
Your position must be grounded and argued using empirical evidence.
Inclusion of objectively worded counter-positions that illustrate a comprehensive and nuanced understanding of the issue.
A minimum of 8 credible sources cited within the text and present on the works cited page. Among the 8 sources used, a minimum of 6 sources must be peer-reviewed academic scholarship.
Developing the Essay
You’ll complete this assignment in three steps:
Step 1: Develop an outline. The outline should follow a pattern of organization as discussed in the Argument Outline document, as well as state the reasoning and evidence you’ll employ in asserting your position. The goal of this step is to determine how you’ll use all 8 sources in the construction of your essay. The outline will be workshopped by peers for advice on potential counter-positions and the quality of your reasons/evidence.
Step 2: Develop a first draft, and begin the revision process to strengthen the construction. I will offer feedback to help prepare your final draft.
Step 3: Develop a final draft and submit by the end of the semester.
Minimum Requirements:
Original title that describes the essay.
Clear introduction that presents background and context of your problem.
Thesis that encapsulates the purpose of the essay and forecasts the organization of ideas
Correct MLA formatting with parenthetical in-text citations and a works cited page.
Incorporates a minimum of 8 sources, 6 of them must be peer-reviewed scholarly sources
Is at least 1,800 words long.
