Requirements:
Individual presentations
Length: 5-8 minutes (total audio)
Visual aids: Minimum 5 slides, including introduction & conclusion slides
Guidelines:
Introduction
o Introduce yourself
o Give a brief overview of the whole presentation
o Explicitly say your thesis (main argument)
Body*
o Topic selection process
o Research
o How you organized your body paragraphs
o Editing for improvements
o Incorporating feedback
Conclusion
o Summarize your essay & restate thesis in a different way
o Reflect on the whole experience of writing an essay in English, doing & incorporating
research, and preparing a presentation about it (e.g. What was easy/challenging? What
did you learn?)
*How to develop the body:
1. Topic selection process
a. Which topics did you consider?
b. How did you eliminate topics you didn’t choose?
c. What attracted you to your chosen topic?
d. Does this topic relate to anything else in your life?
2. Research
a. Do you have any experience in doing research elsewhere?
b. What process did you use to find sources? Did you learn any new skills?
c. Tell us about sources you didn’t use (and why).
d. Tell us about the sources you used (and why).
3. Organizing body paragraphs
a. Explain how you made connections between your sources and your own ideas.
b. Explain how you put everything in order (first, second, third body paragraphs).
c. Tell us which paragraph contains the strongest argument.
4. Editing for improvements
