Power in Community is a predominantly white-led non-profit organization committed to shifting the narrative for how we see and work alongside underserved communities in the area of affordable housing and home ownership. After the 2020 murder of George Floyd, Power in Community’s board and its leadership wrote a joint statement which stated that they would work hard to dismantle systemic racism and other forms or oppression. This statement added that the organization was fully committed to changing how it operated in lower income communities and in communities of color. As of today, this non-profit has hired and lost six staff, all of whom were either Black or Hispanic. The board made space for to new members but they have only been able to recruit one new board member (a Black woman). Staff who still work at the organization have complained that nothing has really changed since them making that statement in 2020.
