Main Question Post
COLLAPSE
Post an explanation of the social psychological processes that could account for the mixed intervention outcomes in the field experiment by Gehlbach et al. (2016).
In the study, the researchers test how similarities can improve teacher-student relationships. The social psychological processes that could account for the mixed intervention outcomes in the experiment were academic achievement, affect, and motivation.
Next, evaluate the strengths and limitations of their intervention in terms of its generalizability to other educational contexts.
Limitations of the intervention was that it could be localized to underserved students, the socioeconomic status was not taken into consideration, the steps of the intervention were not implemented as well as the researchers believed it should have been, the statistical approach shifted from the original approach in the statement of transparency.
A strength of the intervention is that is does generalize to other educational contexts. The results of the study reveal that causal association between similarity and relationship outcomes can generalize to real-life relationships (Gehlbach et al., 2016). “Social-psychological interventions hold significant promise for promoting broad and lasting change in education” (Yeager et al, 2011). And I believe that this intervention is one of them.
Then, given your overall assessment, describe the extent to which you think their intervention is scalable.
I believe the intervention is scalable. The intervention is evidence-based and has been proven effective through the outcomes of improving TSR. According to Gehlbach et al., (2016), the intervention could be scalable from a policy prospective if future studies replicated the narrowing of the achievement gap found in the study.
