Pop Culture Research Essay
Topic
You have the freedom to choose your own topic, as long as it relates to the pop culture theme of our class. Your topic should fall under any of categories we’ve talked about in class and/or a category from the Pop Culture Association list of subject areas.
Purpose
Your goal for this essay is to craft a clear, well-researched argument that provides ample support for its original thesis, synthesizes multiple sources, and effectively addresses possible counterarguments.
Process
Because this is an argumentative research essay, you will do the following:
1. Develop a research question and submit a research proposal.
2. At some point in the process, prepare for and attend a one-on-one conference with your professor.
3. Complete several stages of research, including an annotated bibliography.
4. Create a strong, arguable thesis statement that answers your research question.
5. Draft, revise, edit, and submit a final, polished draft.
Audience
An academic audience who is interested in your topic but who may require background information in order to understand your thesis
Formatting, Source, and Length Requirements
Please use APA or MLA style for this essay. If you’d like to use a different citation style, please discuss it with me during office hours.
You are required to include and cite from at least 7 sources in the text.
Your essay should be between 7-9 pages (1750-2250 words, not counting the heading, title, or Works Cited/Reference page).
