Requirements:
This assignment will be a 3-5 page (not including
Title and Reference page) formal paper using APA format. The case scenario
below will be used to answer the questions.
Case Scenario:
An ADN nurse and a Care Tech are engaged in a
personal conversation while transferring an elderly patient from a wheel chair
to a Radiology table. Neither are observing the patient, who attempts to
self-transfer without the wheel chair breaks applied. The patient falls and
fractures their left hip.
· Give
a background on the Texas Board of Nursing Differentiated Essential
Competencies and its purpose.
· Describe
the DEC’s as they are applied to the ADN.
· Describe
the differences between the BSN and ADN level.
· Apply
the DEC’s to the scenario above, answering the questions below.
Questions:
1. After
the patient falls, what steps should the nurse initially take?
2. Which
competencies would the nurse expect to demonstrate as a Provider of Care or
Member of the Health Care Team?
3. What
additional competencies should a BSN nurse demonstrate compared to the ADN
after the incident?
