RESEARCH PAPER
NOTE: All problem topics must be approved by me and must be
written from a management   perspective
to be accepted. Remember that you are
focusing on a PROBLEM and NOT a specific ORGANIZATION. A discussion board has
been set up for you to submit your problem topics and for me to respond; I will
not be able to respond to individual emails regarding problem topics. If you do
not participate in the discussion board and submit your topic for approval by
the due date, you may not receive credit for your paper or presentation.
NOTE: Please review the APA documents and use the template
in the APA module. You are NOT using MLA format for this paper. If you submit a
section or the final paper using MLA format, you may receive a zero for your
work. APA format includes 1” margins on both sides of a page and double-spaced
sentences. The sample paper is NOT an “A” paper and is merely an example of the
format and flow of the paper, including references.
NOTE: This is NOT an opinion paper. You are expected to
support your statements in EACH section of the paper by citing your work. Any
work submitted without the appropriate research will be considered plagiarism
and may receive a grade of “zero.”
·      RESEARCH PAPER WORKFLOW:
o
Your
paper identifies, discusses, and resolves a managerial problem.
o
Each
of the five sections of your paper should be detailed as follows and as
outlined in the rubric:
§  Section 1:
·      Identify the problem
and provide details as a problem statement to introduce the focus of the paper.
·      Provide the background
and history of the problem
·      Discuss two reasons why
you selected the problem and support the section with at least two citations
from your research.
§  Section 2:
·      Identify and discuss
three reasons for the existence of the problem.
·      Discuss each reason
separately and include a sub-heading for each reason (should be a few words and
not a long sentence).
·      Support your discussion
with citations from your research for EACH reason given.
§  Section 3:
·      Discuss the effects of
the problem on the following items: morale,
productivity, efficiency, effectiveness, and goal attainment.  You MUST include these five items
to receive credit and you MUST include citations to support your
research for EACH of the five items.
§  Section 4:
·      Present and discuss
three possible solutions to the problem.
·      Discuss each solution
separately and include sub-headings (Solution
#1, Solution #2, Solution #3).
·      You MUST support your work with at least
two citations.
§  Section 5:
·      Select one of the
possible solutions as your recommendation to resolve the problem and discuss
why you think it will work. Identify which one was selected. Ex. The
implementation of Solution #1, which was to … will be the most beneficial in
reducing ….
·      You MUST support your selection with at
least two citations. If all three provide a solution, then discuss how each one
resolves the problem. You must include two citations for EACH solution
that you select.
o
At
least six references are required, including the text. You will lose points if
you do not use the text. They must be scholarly articles, with an author and a
date. Wikipedia, study.com, Quizlet, and other such sources are not acceptable forms of scholarly
research. Use the Wayne State Library databases to locate information.
o
The
completed paper must be 7-10 pages and must follow APA format. A blank template
and a sample paper are posted in the APA Module in Canvas, along with other
helpful APA resources.
o
Papers
submitted without in-text citations will be in violation of Wayne State’s
policy regarding Academic dishonesty and plagiarism and may receive a grade of
zero. Review the Academic dishonesty section in this syllabus.
o
The
successful completion of this assignment will enable you to think about the
actions or behaviors you would like to correct or improve as a manager in an
organization.
o
A
rubric outlining the details of the paper is posted in the APA Module in
Canvas. You will be given more information regarding the paper as we proceed
through the semester. Please review the resources in the APA Help Module to
familiarize yourself with APA format, in-text citations, and reference
listings. If you send me an email with an APA question, I will refer you to
these resources so that you become more familiar with APA. Use the rubric as
you complete each section and compile them for your final submission.
